Taking Online/Hybrid Chemistry? |
If you are enrolled in one of my courses, looking to crash, or just need chemistry help, you are welcome to access any and all resources on this site. If there is something you need that you cannot find, please contact me, and I'll see if I can help.
If you are crashing a course I'm teaching, please fill out the form below. Crasher/Wait List Info: According to school policy, I must add students according to the wait list. Your best bet for getting into the class you want is to get on the wait list, but this is even not a certainty of getting added. I cannot over-enroll due to lab safety reasons. If you see an open course that you need, please enroll in that course, even if you'd prefer to be in my course. I don't often add crashers in spring and fall, so be aware of that. In order for me to add wait listed students, enrolled students must drop or not show up on Day 1. In order for me to get to adding crashers, all wait listed students will be offered a spot. IF I add crashers, it will be a random selection. I cannot just give out add codes based on your situation, sorry. Please also see the course information for the course you are wanting to crash by clicking on the tabs on this page. |
First, check out the resources provided by the California Community Colleges Virtual Campus, especially the Introduction to Online Learning.
My course will be hosted on Canvas, which I have used for many years. I have essentially been teaching “hybrid” type classes with very strong online resource components, including live-streaming my in-person classes on Zoom. So the transition to fully-online was not too much of a stretch for me, and I am trying to view it as an exciting challenge to create the best online chemistry course that I can! If you are taking a hybrid class, your lab will likely be in person, so that you can gain the lab skills needed to be successful. The online portion class is asynchronous, so you will be able to complete assignments when it’s best for your schedule, making sure that you keep to weekly deadlines. Pre-made lectures will be available via an interactive platform called PlayPosit, which I find is most like when I ask questions and you work in an in-person class. I will have live sessions scheduled throughout the week for mini-lectures, to answer questions, and to provide any help that you need! You will also have access to me for help via text, email, and Canvas message pretty much 24/7. I also will provide you with a link to schedule 1:1 appointments with me for more direct support. I also hook you up with a study group, a lab group, and encourage larger class discussions that can help you feel more like you’re in an in-person environment. |
